SIIS team attended GISWORX in Dubai, UAE hosted by GISTEC, our sales partner in UAE from 12th to 13th of December. GISWORX is known as the largest remote sensing exhibition in Middle East. Our team discussed potential projects with other companies in GIS industry and had several meetings regarding Direct Receiving Station. It was fruitful exhibition to broaden our markets and introduce KOMPSAT to Middle East customers.

SI Imaging Services (“SIIS”) announced the signing of a reselling agreement with UrtheCast Corp. and its subsidiary, the Earth Observation company Deimos Imaging, a leading provider of Earth Observation products and services for the mutual global distribution of their respective product portfolios on 21st of December. The space assets of SIIS and Deimos Imaging include the KOMPSAT series KOMPSAT-2, KOMPSAT-3, KOMPSAT-3A and KOMPSAT-5, and Deimos-1 and Deimos-2, resulting in a wide portfolio of X-band SAR and optical data in a wide range of resolutions, from 22 m to 0.4 m per pixel. The combination of radar with very high-resolution optical imagery will allow observation of the Earth day and
night, regardless of weather conditions, and is intended to provide a constant asset monitoring service. This is key for a wide range of applications, especially those requiring frequent monitoring over the same area of interest and real-time response, such as emergency services, border and maritime surveillance and defence and security.

Racurs company has 25 years long history of success on Russian and worldwide geoinformatics market. Since its foundation in 1993 the company has been developing an innovative digital mapping software for processing aerial, space and terrestrial imagery. Racurs’s flagship product PHOTOMOD was one of the first digital photogrammetric systems on the market that was designated for working on off-the-shelf PCs. Today PHOTOMOD is the most popular digital photogrammetric software in Russia and well known all over the world. Racurs is successfully continuing to develop its remote-sensing data distribution in Russia and the CIS countries.
SI Imaging Services and Racurs provide beneficial promotion of KOMPSAT remote sensing data and Russian photogrammetric software PHOTOMOD. Within the partnership relations specialists of Racurs tested KOMPSAT-3 data to investigate the accuracy of RPC, characteristics of the internal geometry of stereo pair and comparison of the surface digital model.

For ship detection, X-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery provides very useful data, in that ship targets look much brighter than surrounding sea clutter due to the corner-reflection effect. However, there are many phenomena which bring out false detection in the SAR image, such as noise of background, ghost phenomena, side-lobe effects and so on. Therefore, when ship-detection algorithms are carried out, we should consider these effects and mitigate them to acquire a better result. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to detect ship targets from X-band Kompsat-5 SAR imagery using the artificial neural network (ANN).
The method produces the ship-probability map using ANN, and then detects ships  from the ship-probability map by using a threshold value.
For the purpose of getting an improved ship detection, we strived to produce optimal input layers used for ANN. In order to reduce phenomena related to the false detections, the non-local (NL)-means filter and median filter were utilized. The NL-means filter effectively reduced noise on SAR imagery without smoothing edges of the objects, and the median filter was used to remove ship targets in SAR imagery. Through the filtering approaches, we generated two input layers from a Kompsat-5 SAR image, and created a ship-probability map via ANN from the two input layers. When the threshold value of 0.67 was imposed on the ship
-probability map, the result of ship detection from the ship-probability map was a 93.9% recall, 98.7% precision and 6.1% false alarm rate. Therefore, the proposed method was successfully applied to the ship detection from the Kompsat-5 SAR image.

Mount Fuji in Japan taken by KOMPSAT-3A.

Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan, it is a dormant volcano that erupted in 1707~1708. Its cone, which is covered with snow for about 5 months a year, is a well-known symbol of Japan, as well as visited by sightseers and climbers.
