This imagery report uses a KOMPSAT-3 satellite imagery captured on December 10, 2015 to document ongoing activity on Shayrat Airbase in Syria. In the image above, you can see 6x Mi-24, 1x Mi-8 helicopters at the airbase. Moreover, the primary runway about 3,000 meters has been re-paved by October 31, 2015.
Shayrat Airbase (FAA LID: OS65), which is located in Homes in Syria, is home to the Syrian Air Force 50th Air Brigade. It has two runways and around 40 hardened shelters.
The airbase was originally built in the 1960s. The Russian Air Force also uses the facility. In 2015, Russia expanded the runways to accommodate Russian aircraft. In February of 2016, the Russian military increased the amount of attack helicopters stationed at Shayrat. This deployment was in addition to a previous deployment of four Mi-24s in November of 2015.
