KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) has been releasing KOMPSAT Imagery Quality Report since May, 2016. We have been sharing reports on our website and newsletter every other month. The report of February and March, 2020 includes information about KOMPSAT-2, 3, and 3A. They show location accuracy, ground resolution, etc. The location accuracy of KOMPSAT satellites have improved a lot from the designed specification.

This study demonstrates how to use KOMPSAT-3A stereo data to extract digital surface models (DSM). The study area is the Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah, USA. The mine is the largest man-made excavation in the world and is considered to have produced more copper than any other mine in history. Dr. Philip Cheng, a senior scientist at PCI Geomatics conducted this study with KOMPSAT-3A data and provided results to SI Imaging Services(SIIS).

This study is conducted by Dochul Yang, Senior Researcher from Korea Aerospace Research Institute to detect changes in urban areas with KOMPSAT-5 SAR images. SNAP S1TBX (Version 7.0) software was used to perform change detection analysis. SAR change detection is a technique that observes and detects a change in a target by using the intensity or phase information of a SAR image obtained at different times in the same region.

KOMPSAT-3 was launched at Tanegashima Space Center of JAXA in Japan on May 18, 2012. The center is the largest rocket-launch complex in Japan located on the southeast coast of Tanegashima. It is an island approximately 40 km south of Kyushu.
