SI Imaging Services and URSA Space Systems sign an Agreement

  • Date : 2023.01.25 15:56

SIIS will provide Ursa Space with access to very high resolution (VHR) electro-optical (EO) imagery, which Ursa Space will make available to customers on its Image Services platform. The VHR EO imagery comes from the KOMPSAT-2, KOMPSAT-3, and KOMPSAT-3A SSO EO satellites. This agreement strengthens Ursa Space’s relationship with SIIS, which is a provider of top-quality, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data from the KOMPSAT-5 satellite.

Ursa Space’s Virtual Constellation includes SIIS and other SAR, EO, and RF satellite data partners from around the globe. The company’s customers can access an extensive catalog of imagery made possible by the Virtual Constellation through the firm’s Image Services platform. Various analytic products derived from these sources are also available to customers.

Designed to acquire continuous, high-precision, EO data, the Korean Multi-Purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT) series of satellites have supported a range of applications, from environmental and resource monitoring to precision mapping. These satellites were placed into orbit by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), which is funded by the South Korean government for the purpose of space development and to monitor Earth’s surfaces.

Some key statistics pertaining to KOMPSAT-2, -3 and -3A satellites include the following:

KOMPSAT-2

Launch date: 2006 Features: 1.0 meter panchromatic and four 4.0 multispectral bands (B,G,R, NIR) imaging capability.

KOMPSAT-3

Launch date: 2012 Features: “Advanced Earth Imaging Sensor System” capable of delivering high spatial resolution (sub-meter) in stereo from a single pass. Optical images with 0.5 m resolution from a panchromatic configuration and 2-meter resolution from four multi-spectral bands.

KOMPSAT-3A

Launch date: 2015 Features: Same as KOMPSAT-3 satellite, but adds Infrared Imaging System and improves resolution to 0.4 meters for panchromatic and 1.6 meters for multi-spectral imagery.

“Ursa Space is excited to expand our long-term collaboration with SIIS to provide easy access to these powerful sources of information,” said Adam Maher, Founder, and CEO, at Ursa Space.

“Having Ursa Space as our partner for KOMPSAT VHR EO imagery will spread awareness and allow more customers to draw key insights based on this imagery,” said Moongyu Kim, President, and CEO at SIIS.
